Martha Ellen Bassett, age 93, of Greenfield, passed away on Nov. 14, 2011. Born on June 29, 1918, in Shelbyville, Martha was the daughter of Alonzo L. and Anna Belle (Anderson) Law. She graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1936, and married Carl Edward Bassett on Sept. 30, 1938. She worked as a farm wife and homemaker.
Martha was a member of Y F&M and attended the New Life United Methodist Church. She loved singing in the church choir, reading, her family, and traveling with Carl.
Surviving her are her daughters, Jane (Dennis) Wilson of Greenfield and Carol (Casey) Cummins of San Ramon, Calif.; grandchildren, Lora (David) Essington, Elaine (Mark) Robbins, Erin Wilson, Nathan (Lauren) Wilson, Rachel Cummins, Leah (Jason) Sabel, Elizabeth (Jesse) Thompson, Zachary Cummins, Jeremiah Cummins, and Joshua Cummins; and thirteen great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; four brothers; and five sisters.
Funeral services will take place on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, at noon at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Visitation will take place from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Pastor David Woods will be officiating and burial will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.
