Claudia June Haines, age 71, of Bloomington, Ind., died on Monday, Oct. 24, 2011. Claudia was born on May 20, 1940, in Indianapolis.

Claudia married Sonnie Claffey on July 19, 1959. Claudia’s life was spent supporting her family through her work, her faith, children’s school events, and other extracurricular activities. Always curious, she touched the lives of those around her with her compassion, interest in their lives, and concern for their well being. Claudia worked in the family business of Sonnie’s Appliances in the Bloomington area for over 20 years. She was also a school bus driver for the Monroe County Community School Corporation for many years. Students attending Unionville School will remember her as a supportive yet firm presence and ready to deal with whatever crisis erupted either on the school bus or in their lives. Students at IU’s SPEA will remember her for her gentle wisdom, always encouraging their learning, self-reliance and independence. Claudia was a member of the United Church of God, and her strong faith sustained her to the end.

Survivors include children, Scott (Jackie) Claffey, Kristi (Mark) Williamson, and John (Jean) Claffey; sister, Patricia Lowder; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her husband; parents, Leota E. and J. Ralph Haines; and sister, Karen Phifer.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011, at Erlewein Funeral Home in Fortville. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 28, 2011, at the mortuary. Burial will follow at Gravel Lawn Cemetery.
