Jo Ellen (Hallowell) Hite, age 74, of Greenfield, passed away on Oct. 22, 2011, at Morristown Manor. Born on July 17, 1937, in Anderson, she was the daughter of Joseph and Elleanora (Keller) Hallowell.

Jo Ellen graduated from Pendleton High School in 1955, and attended Earlham College in Richmond. She earned her degree in Public Accounting and worked as an accountant for over thirty years before retiring in 2009. She had also previously worked as the Pool Director at the YWCA in Anderson for nine years and was formerly a substitute teacher at Eden Elementary.

Jo Ellen had attended Eden Methodist Church, Pendleton Methodist church, and Sugar Grove UMC and had served as an organist at all. She taught swimming lessons at Riley Pool and at Fortville Swim Club for several years.

 During and after high school, Jo Ellen played piano in a jazz band. Once she became a mother, she was a Brownie leader and loved to help all six of her children with their 4-H projects.

Surviving are her son, Kirk Hite of Indianapolis; daughters, Janna Stiers of Greenfield, Jenny Orbik of Richmond, Joni (John) Nissen of Luckey, Ohio, and Julie Eavenson of Pendleton; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

 Preceding her in death were her parents, Elleanora and Joseph Hallowell; son, Shawn Hite; and grandson, Joey Fletcher.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28, 2011, at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral services will take place at 11a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, at the mortuary. Burial will take place at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
