Lon Louis Hawk, age 68, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011, in Knoxville, Tenn. After being born in Monmouth, Ill., he lived in Roanoke, Va. during his earlier years before moving to Greenfield.

He retired from Eli Lilly and Co. as an animal research technician and moved to Knoxville, Tenn. during the last six years of his life. Lon served in the U.S. Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was an avid sports memorabilia collector, enjoyed fishing, and adored his Pekingese dogs.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Carol; stepmother, Mary Lou Hawk; son, Rodney (Lisa) Kingrea; daughters, Sonia Kingrea, Deborah Campbell, Angella Lehman; brothers, Johnny Overstreet, Kevin Legge, Terry Hawk; sisters, Darlene Witt, Peggy Sheese, Debbie Elliott, Patty Tatman, Cherrie Weldon; and six grandchildren.

Lon was preceded in death by his father, Charles Hawk, Jr.; mother, Sally Legge; and brother Michael Legge.

The family will receive friends on from noon until 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011, at the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011, at the chapel, with Rev. David Vanderpool officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.
