The Lord in his wisdom and in his time took home to glory, Lavina Mae Schwier, who died in the faith, peacefully, on the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011. Lavina (Mae) was born in Danville, Ill., on May 20,1929, to Herbert Ditmer and Fairy Ethel Blackwell Ditmer.
Mae was a 1947 Graduate of New Palestine High School, and in her early working life, she worked at AT&T as a secretary. Later, she worked at Buckleys Restaurant, where she met her husband, Donald Edward Schwier. They have been married for 63 years. Mae was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of New Palestine where she had worked in the office and in the kitchen for the church.
Mae is survived by husband, Donald; daughters, Ginny Schwier, Brenda (Steve) Mahana; son, Phillip (Linda) Schwier; brother, Jack Ditmer; niece, Linda (Mike) Faubion; five grand children; and seven great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was her foster sister, Mary Kay Russ.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, at the Zion Lutheran Church, 6513 W. 300 S., New Palestine. Funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, at the church. Burial will follow at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
