Ruthann Smith, age 78, of Greenfield, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield. Born on March 24, 1933, in Greenfield, she was the daughter of George R. and Martha L. (Jeffries) Smith.
Ruthann married William C. "Bill" Smith on Sept. 5, 1954. Together, they owned and operated a dairy farm. She was a registered nurse at Hancock Regional Hospital from 1954 to 1961, and she later worked at Morristown Manor, retiring from Regency Place.
She was a member of Shiloh Christian Church and enjoyed crafts and crocheting.
Survivors include her sons, Earl R. "Rusty" (Barbara) Smith of Greenfield, Joe W. (Pam Jack) Smith of Greenfield; daughter, Maribeth Ann (Rick) Doughty of Richfield, N.C.; grandchildren, Christopher Smith, Michael Smith, Joe Smith II, Danyelle Cope, and Dylan Jack.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Sept. 21, 2007; her parents; and granddaughter, Naomi Smith on July 25, 2008.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Frazier Chapel, 124 E. North St. in Morristown. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011, at the funeral home, with Rev. Fred Girwood officiating. Interment will be in Asbury Cemetery.
