Alan D. Canan, age 84, of Pendleton passed away on Sept. 20, 2011, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. He was born on Nov. 10, 1926, in Douglas, W.V.a., and was a Pendleton resident since 1968.

Alan was a sales representative for Greenback Industries for over 20 years retiring in 1991. He was a US Army veteran. Alan attended the First United Methodist Church in Pendleton and was active in Anderson RC Flyers for many years where he served as treasurer. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially the grandkids. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to friend and neighbor, Joe Jackson for all his help throughout the years.

Survivors include his three children, Jill (Greg) Neff of Anderson and their children, Ryan Neff and friend, Megan, Dustin Neff and Brandi (Richard) Buttler; Jan (Stephen) Gall of Anderson and their children, Justin (Adrienne) Gall, Blake Gall, Jordan Gall, and Cameron and Clayton Gall; and Jay (Janice) Canan of Pendleton and their daughter, Nicole Canan; and a great grandson, Kristian Buttler.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Esna “Essie” (Phillips) Canan; wife, Mary L. (Parsley) Canan; and brother, Ellsworth “Jr.” Canan.

A Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 26, 2011, at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Lahm Chapel, Pendleton. Services will follow at Noon with Pastor Lance Stevens officiating. Burial will be held at Grove Lawn Cemetery, Pendleton.
