Albert “Al” E. Horton, age 76, of Greenfield, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011, in Greenfield. Born on March 11, 1935, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Harry T. and Gladys (Horton) Horton.

He graduated from Greenfield High School in 1954 and married Karen Richmond on July 10, 1959. Al worked at Indiana Gear Works in Indianapolis for over 28 years. He then worked at Maxwell Middle School and retired as a maintenance supervisor from the Daily Reporter. In his retirement years, he delivered flowers for Classic Design for seven years.

Mr. Horton was a committed member of the Hancock Reformed Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Army. He had a unique creative cartoon ability that brought joy and laughter to his family, friends, and co-workers.

Surviving him are his wife, Karen Horton of Greenfield; daughters, Beth (Dr. Mark) Judy of Greenfield and Jama (David) Winiger of Carmel; grandchildren, Greg (fiancé, Brittany Hobbs), Michael, Kent, Brett, Scott, Judy, and Joshua (fiancé, Allison Huber) and Evan Winiger; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Virginia Benjamin; and brother, Tom Horton.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011, at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 2, 2011, at the Hancock Reformed Baptist Church. Burial will take place at Park Cemetery in Greenfield. Graveside military rites will be performed by the United States Army.
