Robert W. Broadwater, age 88, a resident of rural Greenfield, passed away on Monday morning, Aug. 29, 2011, at Morristown Manor Convalescent Center in Morristown, Ind. He was born on Dec. 11, 1922, in Shirley, Ind., the son of the late Oscar & Alta (Wisehart) Broadwater.
He was retired from GM Guide Lamp (34 years), former owner of Roned’s Tire (11 years), a member of UAW 663, and a farmer. He was an avid supporter of Eastern Hancock Band and Athletic Boosters and was a member of Greenfield Friends Meeting.
He is survived by his wife, Sara L. (Jessup) Broadwater; son, Ned L. (Beth) Broadwater of Valparaiso, Ind.; daughters, Gae Broadwater (Joseph B. Parker III ) of Frankfort, Ky., and Claire Broadwater (Bill Schneider) of Greensboro, Ga.; brother, Paul C. Broadwater of Greenfield; sister, Marybelle Isaacs of Coatesville, Ind.; grandsons, Joseph W. (Niki) Hutsell of Mobile, Ala., John W. Hutsell of Hampton, Ga., and Austin R. Broadwater of Valparaiso, Ind.; granddaughters, Sara K. Broadwater & Olivia D. Broadwater, both of Valparaiso, Ind.; great-granddaughter, Addison L. Hutsell of Mobile, Ala., four nieces; and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011, at Condo & Son Funeral Home, in Wilkinson, Ind. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011, at the funeral home, with Pastor Rick Schoeff officiating. Burial will follow in McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson, Ind., with military graveside rites.
