Helen L. McCauley, age 89, of Indianapolis, formerly of Connersville, Ind., went home to be with the Lord at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Dec. 29, 1921, in Bennett Switch, Miami County, Ind., one of two children of Benjamin Arthur and Sadie Marie Carnine Dye.

She graduated from Clay Township High School. On Sept. 28, 1940, she was united in marriage to Everett McCauley in Kokomo, Ind. and moved to Connersville, Ind. for residence where Mr. McCauley was an agriculture teacher at Connersville High School. She was employed as a mortgage writer for American United Life Company. She was also employed at Design and Manufacturing in Connersville, Ind. In 1951, she started the Welcome Wagon for the Connersville, Ind. area and served as the secretary for the Fayette County Area Planning Committee. Helen and her husband, Everett, were charter members of the local AARP chapter. She and her husband operated McCauley Paper Mill in Connersville. In 2005, they moved to the Indianapolis area to be close to their daughter. Helen was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Greenfield and had been a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Connersville, Ind. While residing in Connersville, Ind., she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She served on the Salvation Army Board and was a member of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Everett L. McCauley; son Everett A. (Starla) McCauley of Miamisburg, Ohio; daughter, Ellen M. (Les) Harvey of Indianapolis; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren; five nieces; two nephews; and several cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sons, Edward Leroy McCauley and Jon Roger McCauley.

Friends may call from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Sunday Aug. 21, 2011, at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home in Connersville, Ind., where Eastern Star Services will be held at 6 p.m. An additional calling will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Monday. Aug. 22, 2011, at the First Presbyterian Church at 116 W. South St., Greenfield. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 22, 2011, at the church with Pastor John J. Paulson officiating. Burial will be in the Galveston Cemetery, Galveston, Ind.
