William Ray Leonard, age 83, died peacefully at his home on Monday, July 25, 2011. Bill was born on July 2, 1928 in Indianapolis.

He was a graduate of Arsenal Tech High School. He married Carolyn Graham on June 24, 1950.

Bill was a devoted family man who was very creative and loved life. He was an “honorary member” of the Graham family. Bill worked for Indiana Gear Works as a machinist for 30 years, retiring in 1988. He attended The Indian Creek Christian Church.

Surviving him are his wife of 61 years, Carolyn Leonard; children, Vicky (Don) Rutherford of Indianapolis, Sandra (Vince) Ryon of New Palestine, Carol (Lenny) Russell of Indianapolis, Michael (Beth) Leonard of Indianapolis, Jill (Jesse) Campbell of Greenfield, Anthony Leonard of Fayetteville, N.C.; cousin, Edward Andrews; 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, William and Mable Leonard; two sisters, Kathryn Hillman and Virginia Leonard; and brother, Robert Leonard.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 27, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral services will be on Thursday, July 28, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. also at the mortuary. Burial will follow at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis.
