Neal E. Whetsel, age 71, died on Friday, July 22, 2011, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis. Born on Sept. 7, 1939, in Madison County, he was the son of Russell “Mark” and Ruth Mae (Garrett) Whetsel. He graduated from Lapel High School in 1957. He married Leslie (Shull) Whetsel on May 7, 1986.
Surviving him are his wife, Leslie Whetsel of Fortville; children, Richard L. and Larry E. (Pam) Whetsel both of Noblesville, James (Amber) Anderson of Ingalls and N. Jill (Matthew) Fletcher of Fortville; sisters, Joan Ballard of Fla., Carolyn (Phillip) Rapp of Pendleton, Jean LeGault of Pendleton and Martha Wallace of Fortville; brothers, Kenneth “Jumbo” (Phyllis) Whetsel of Ingalls and Richard Whetsel of Pendleton; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Russell “Mark” and Ruth Whetsel; sons, Mark A. and Ricky D. Whetsel; a grandson; and a great-grandson.
Visitation was on Monday, July 25, from 4 until 8 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary in Fortville. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, July 26, at 11 a.m. also at the funeral home. Reverend Gary Scott will be officiating. Burial will follow at Gravel Lawn Cemetery in Fortville.
