Joseph Lloyd Eakin passed away on April 27, 2011. Joe was born on Christmas Day, 1926 in Hancock County to Winfred (Kelly) and Raymond.

Joseph was a mechanical engineer and served as both a Merchant Marine and in the US Army in Germany, post WWII. Returning home, Joseph worked for the railroad and at Fort Harrison as Chief of Utilities. Even in retirement, he stayed active farming and travelling. Joseph’s eternal curiosity both amused and inspired family and friends. He was a lifelong member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Fortville and a member of the Kiwanis Club. He was one of seven children.

He is survived by his beloved companion, Dee Tichenor; sister, Laura Carter; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and John Molitor; his four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jack, Kathleen, and Daniel Molitor; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; his son Joseph Jr. (“J.L.”); and his siblings, Charles, Emmett (“Red”), Basil, Mary Lou Bednarski, and Lenora Pugh.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Fortville. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following mass.
