John L. “Jack” Meckel, age 84, of Indianapolis, was called home to be with the Lord on April 7, 2011. Jack was born on Sep. 30, 1926 in Minneapolis, Minn., to the late Silas A. and Ruth D. Meckel.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Jack was a regional salesman with Ashland Chemical Colo. for 41 years, retiring in 1991. He was always looking for the next laugh, joke or conversation. Jack loved his job, his cars and especially his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Virginia “Ginger” (Cammack) Meckel; sons, David (Marsha) Meckel and Phillip (Emily) Meckel; step-son, Michael Hanna; four grandsons, two granddaughters and one great granddaughter; sister, Betty Babcock.
Jack was preceded in death by a great granddaughter.
Per Jack’s request, there will be no calling or services. Interment will be at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, TX.
Memorial contributions may be made to Riley Hospital for Children Neonatal Intensive Care Unit or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Indiana. Arrangements entrusted to Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center-Washington Park East.
