Gary “Butch” Ellis, age 74, of Morristown, passed away on March 29, 2011, at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield. Born on Feb. 1, 1937, in Hancock County, he was the son of Harry A. and Lucille (Hancock) Ellis.
Butch married Gloria Dean Everhart on Nov. 23, 1957, in Hancock County. He worked at Allison’s Plant #5 as a Machinist for 30 years before retiring as an Inspector in 1991. Butch was a member of Community Church of Fountaintown and the Greenfield Conservation Club. He also served in the U.S. Navy and the National Guard.
Surviving him are his wife, Gloria Dean Ellis of Morristown; children, Tammy Jo Worton of Morristown, Vickie Lynn (Tim) Roberts of Fountaintown, and David E. (Becky) Ellis of Morristown; brothers, Harry Ellis of Texas, Mike Ellis of Morristown, and Jeff Ellis of Noblesville; sisters, Sandra Medlen of Indianapolis and Joan Ferris of Greenfield; grandchildren, Greg, Mark, Lindsey, Jason, Jennifer, Jody, Matthew, and Emily; and great-grandchildren, Jeremiah, Juriah, Shane, Jacob, and Brody.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two sons, Gary Dean Ellis and Ricky Lyn Ellis; and a brother, David Eugene Ellis.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, April 1, 2011, at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral services will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2011, at the mortuary. Reverend Michael Smith will be officiating.
