Rosa Olive Dake White, age 87, a resident of Greenfield, passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2011, at Pleasant View Lodge. She was born on May 19, 1923, in Shelby County, Ind., to the late Lula Mae Pollard and Albert Elmore Dake.

Rosa’s mother passed away when Rosa was a child and she was taken to be raised by her older brother Forrest and wife, Anna, as one of their own. Rosa graduated from Moral High School in 1941 and then from Indiana Business College. She worked as a bookkeeper and clerk at Zephren Trucking and for Greyhound Bus Lines. In 1953, she went to work for Eli Lilly & Co. from which she retired in 1983. Rosa loved traveling, sharing her vegetable garden, cooking, and spoiling her loved ones.

Survivors include; daughter, Nancy (Kenneth) Merchant, of Greenfield; niece (like a sister), Martha Dake Palmer; granddaughter Lisa (Merchant) Corbit; grandson, Kelly Merchant; great-grandsons, Matthew (Valerie) Merchant and Sean Merchant; great-granddaughters, Anastacia (Steven) Corbit-Clarkson and Alicia Merchant; and great-great-grandson, Quinn Corbit-Clarkson.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert M. Padgett, in 1953 and second husband, Willis L. White, (married on Feb. 16, 1957) in 2005; older brothers, Forrest and David Dake; grandson, Eric D. Merchant; nephew (like a brother), Russell; and niece (like a sister), Lula Mae (Dake) Bucker.

Friends may call from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2011, at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel of Greenfield. A funeral service will follow on Thursday, March 31, 2011, at 2 p.m. with Adam Payne officiating. Entombment will be at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis.
