William “Bill” Boyd Cecil, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010, at Community Hospital East in Indianapolis. Born on June 13, 1930, in Greenfield, he was the son of John U. and Maudie (Musman) Cecil.

He attended New Palestine High School and worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Greenfield and New Palestine for 34 years before retiring in 1989. Mr. Cecil was a pilot who loved flying as well as golfing and fishing. He was a great father, father-in-law, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who always put his family first. Bill was an Air Force veteran. He was also a skilled craftsman who used his abilities to help friends and relatives with numerous projects throughout his life. A man of integrity, two words to describe Bill are “kind” and “truthful.”

Surviving him are his wife, Nonie (Leary) Cecil of Greenfield; daughters, Debbie (Jim) McWhinney and Jonie (Skip) Spetter, both of Greenfield; grandchildren, Chad (Mary Kris) McWhinney, Emily (Joel) Shores, and Alex Spetter; great-grandchildren, Connor, Carson, Cathryn, Renee, and Kainen; several nieces; and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Frank Cecil; and grandchild, April McWhinney.

Visitation will be on from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at the mortuary. Pastor Matt Wickham will be officiating and burial will take place at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
