Jonathan Willits, 87, passed away on Monday, Nov. 29, 2010, at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield. Born on March 20, 1923, in Hamilton County, he was the son of Raymond and Ruth (Stewart) Willits.

Jonathan graduated from Maxwell High School in 1941 and married Betty Martin on Aug. 7, 1954, in Greenfield. He was self-employed in construction and as a farmer for many years. Mr. Willits was a member of the American Legion and loved woodworking. He was also a veteran of the United States Army who served during WWII and the Korean Conflict.

Surviving him are his wife, Betty Willits of Pendleton; children, Raymond Dale (Jill) Willits of Corydon and Loretta (Bobby) Reed of Pendleton; siblings, Robert Willits and Dorothy Slinkard, both of Greenfield; grandchildren, Sara Zehnder, Cory Lopez, Jerimiah Willits, Nicole Meade, Jamie Meade, Malissa Meade, and Zacary Garland; great-grandchildren, Layla Zehnder, Athan Zehnder, Brianna Willits, Isaiah Garland, and Lucas Garland; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Evelyn Silverthorn.

Private graveside services will take place at Gravel Lawn Cemetery in Fortville. Arrangements are being handled by Erlewein Mortuary in Fortville.
