Barbara Ann (Dodds) Crowell, age 73, of Spiceland, passed away on Monday, Nov. 22, 2010, at Hancock Regional Hospital. Born on Aug. 7, 1937, in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Edward and Helen (Barbara) Dodds.

Barbara graduated from Howe High School in 1955 and married Faye M. Crowell on Dec. 8, 1962, in Indianapolis. She had previously worked at the Prosecutor's Office in Hancock County as a legal secretary and also worked at the Purdue Extension Hancock County as an administrative secretary for 18 years. Mrs. Crowell was a volunteer for Santa's Helpers and was a member of the New Palestine and Greenfield Lions Club. She was a charter member of St. James Lutheran Church and was a 4-H leader and volunteer for 47 years. She also received the Partner in Progress Award from Lt. Governor Becky Skillman in 2009 for 25 years of service at the Indiana State Fair as secretary for the 4H Exhibit Hall.

Surviving her are her husband, Faye M. Crowell of Spiceland; daughter, Julie (Larry) Lucas of Greenfield; brothers, Tom (Ruth) Dodds of Indianapolis and Bob (Chris) Dodds of West Lafayette; brother-in-law, Butch Zarse of Chalmers; grandchildren, Leah and Lauren Lucas of Knightstown, and Kandice (Jeff) Pruitt of Greenfield; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her puppy dogs, Lady and Toby.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Betty Zarse.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 26, 2010, at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010, at the mortuary. Entombment will follow at Washington Park East.
